Villa Evora

Hidden in a quiet street in the village of Assagaon is this charming Portuguese home. A foyer leads into a passage with hand-finished walls, broken marble flooring and arched windows. To the left is a cosy kitchen with a breakfast seating and an antique crockery cupboard. The first door down the passage is a bedroom with beige-and-white patterned flooring and an antique cast iron bed. Past the second bedroom is the master bedroom at the end of the passage. Distressed white wooden flooring and antique furniture are paired with bright cushions and vibrant paintings. The bathroom has intricate mosaic walls and flooring. Across from the bedroom is an airy living and dining area with a double-height ceiling. A palatial door serves as a wall hanging, framing a painting and holding an assortment of antique plates in its niches. Arched doorways lead out onto a veranda that touches a swimming pool. Surrounding it is a garden with a gazebo. Up a flight of hand-cut stone steps is another bedroom. Its balcony has antique wooden railings and a cosy sit-out overlooking the poolside and is the perfect place to soak in Villa Evora’s tranquil charm.
