In the leafy quiet of Cunchelim, North Goa, Josephine Estate sits behind a modest Portuguese façade. A 100-year-old home brought back to life, the estate retains the qualities that made it part of its setting in the first place. Inside, the experience begins with the details. Hand-cut stone floors in soft umber tones meet washed linen, time-worn teak and antique armoires. The rooms remain spacious but intuitive, flowing naturally into one another. At the centre, a tree rises through a triple-height atrium, preserved in the place where it had grown, becoming part of the home rather than something designed around.
Master Bedroom
The architecture is rooted in restoration rather than reinvention. Original lime plaster finishes have been recreated using traditional techniques, while hand-carved wooden columns sit alongside the existing laterite walls. Five en suite bedrooms, a generous kitchen and long verandahs extend the house into spaces made for both privacy and gathering. Outside, a low pool sits among garden beds and native palms.

Then there is the green dining room. Wrapped in midnight green, with rounded corners, a domed ceiling and a central chandelier, it feels intimate and encourages the kind of meals that linger into conversation.
