This villa in Tamil Nadu will transport you to the countryside of England
The charming interiors of Chepstow Hall in Coonoor was crafted by Isprava’s talented team of designers.
Sloping roofs, pastel colours and fine details pretty much define Victorian design. Charmingly adapting to this style is Chepstow Hall in Coonoor, an hour’s drive away from the popular tourist destination of Ooty in Tamil Nadu. Its location is quite perfect, throwing up views of the tea plantations and hills—lined with pine and silver oak trees—on all sides. Chepstow Hall’s layout resonates an authentic, cozy English cottage true to Coonoor. Let’s take a tour of this charming space!
The English Resemblance
Back in the 1920s, when the British ruled India, they forged their way through the many hill stations in the country in an attempt to escape the heat and humidity. They built roads, railway tracks and vacation homes in the hills, longing to lounge in cool weather whenever they could. Ooty, and its neighbouring locales like Coonoor, was one of their favourite pitstops, courtesy of the amazing views. Designed by Isprava, Chepstow Hall makes full use of its heritage, even designing window panes to resemble picture frames, so the view beyond looks like an oil painting.
Chepstow Hall’s Design Details
The villa comes with a steep sloping roof and an intimate-covered courtyard. Radiating a distressed appearance are the arches on the wall and old teakwood church benches sourced from old basilicas. The furniture is a combination of French style, handpicked vintage pieces and curated works of art, all put together keeping in mind the Gothic theme. The home also features Burma Teak flooring, previously used as decking on retired ships. The green from the Rhododendron bushes can be seen within the home. Natural influences from citrus trees, sticky ivy, pink and white plants, amongst others match the colour palette of the home. The entire villa comprises 3 bedrooms, 1 den, double-height space (with exquisite chandeliers), arched windows, 2 fireplaces, a gym, and a stable for two ponies.
